Email distribution groups

Features

An email distribution group allows people to email a single "non-person" address. Mail sent to that address is then forwarded to one or more recipient. Each recipient receives their own copy of each incoming message - no shared inbox or sent mail is created.

For example, emailing library@brynmawr.edu sends individual emails to each member of our Reference & Instruction Services team. In such cases, it's important for the recipients to agree amongst themselves who is responsible for responding and when.

A distribution group has no moderation features, configuration options, or message archive. It also does not allow all members to view the same inbox, sent mail, or other folders. If more flexibility is desired, consider requesting a listserv or shared mailbox instead.

Getting Started

To request a new distribution group, contact the Help Desk and provide the following information:

  • Desired email address for the group (if the address you request is not available, we'll work with you to select another)
  • All recipient email addresses for the group

To request addition or removal of recipients on an existing distribution group, contact the Help Desk and describe the changes needed.
