Digital reproductions of materials in the Bryn Mawr College Special Collections are offered for research, publication, and, where possible, commercial use. Please review the Permission to Publish Policy and Terms and Conditions sections below.
Request Procedure
Please place your order using our online request form. For large requests (10+ items), or if you need assistance, please contact us via phone at 610-526-5289 or email at repros@brynmawr.edu.
Please provide detailed information about the item(s) you are requesting, including titles/captions/descriptions and identifying information. Examples of identifying information include: call number, record group number, accession number, URL. Please note that requests will be delayed if identifying information is not provided or suitable to locate the materials.
For print publication, we will deliver files at the highest resolution available via email or a file delivery service. Some files may not be available at high resolutions. Files provided for research and personal study may be provided in lower-resolution JPEG or PDF format unless otherwise requested. If electronic delivery is not possible, a charge for a USB drive and a minimum $5 shipping fee will be added to all domestic orders. We do not provide print reproductions.
Turnaround
In most cases, requests will be completed within 1-2 weeks of the date received. Requests that require new digitization may take additional time.
Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, limited staff are working onsite, and requests may take longer than usual to complete.
Permission to Publish
We do not charge fees for permission to use images in publication. The publication or dissemination of copyrighted materials for purposes beyond those allowed by the Fair Use exemption of the U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, United States Code) requires the written permission of the copyright holder(s). While Special Collections staff may be able to assist you in finding factual information about copyright status and holders, ultimate responsibility for confirming copyright status and securing any necessary permission rests exclusively with the user.
In cases where Bryn Mawr College is not the exclusive rights holder, we are unable to grant permission to publish. Permission to publish is not required for materials that are in the public domain. For help in determining whether an item is in the public domain, please visit Cornell University Library’s Copyright Term and the Public Domain in the United States webpage.
Terms and Conditions
- U.S. Copyright law protects creators’ rights to control the use of their works for a limited period of time. Creators have exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute, perform, and display their works, and to create derivative works. In addition to copyright protections, some materials may be subject to restrictions because of privacy and publicity rights, trademark, purchase agreement, or donor stipulation. Foreign-made works may be subject to foreign copyright laws.
- For copyrighted materials to be published, the requester is solely responsible for clearing the copyright with the rights holder. Bryn Mawr College makes no warranties or representations and assumes no responsibility whatsoever for any claims against the requester, the publisher, or Bryn Mawr College by artists, their agents, estates, or by any parties in connection with the reproduction of this work in the collections of Bryn Mawr College.
- When publishing materials, please credit the author/creator of the work, if known. Please also cite Bryn Mawr College Special Collections as the repository, including identifying information, such as the collection name, title, date, and Record Group number or Accession number. This makes it possible for other researchers to consult these materials later.
- Please notify Bryn Mawr College Special Collections via email when the work has been published. For scholarly articles, please email a digital copy (PDF), and for web-based publications, please email the URL to repros@brynmawr.edu.
